Why does sustainability need to be restored?
Restoring Sustainability was founded to move beyond buzzwords and greenwashing. Too often, “sustainability” gets reduced to checklists—energy efficiency, recycling, certifications—without addressing root causes or community impacts. The result? Fragmented solutions that don’t restore what’s been lost.

We take a systems approach. By looking at the relationships between people, communities, and ecosystems, we help you design projects that are both equitable and ecological. This is eco-centric equity: meeting human needs by creating mutually beneficial relationships between us and our ecosystem.

Whether you’re a community group, nonprofit, or business, we partner with you to embed equity, ecology, and long-term vision into your work—so your impact doesn’t just sustain, it restores.

About Me

Tara A. Pierce
I grew up in small towns along the California coast, where the redwoods meet the crashing waves, and I’ve always felt a deep connection to the sea. From an early age, I saw how communities depend on the health of our environment for food, culture, and belonging. Even in preschool, my first art show was to benefit the Ocean—a spark that set me on a lifelong journey.

That journey has taken many forms: art activism, science communication, and research in the environmental arts and humanities. My legal studies deepened this work, exploring how law and policy can shift toward ecocentric perspectives and locally led solutions like restorative ocean farming. Through this path, I discovered a simple truth: to create a "sustainable" world, we must unite human activity with habitat—and to do that, we need to ask new questions and imagine new ways of being.
Today, I bring this lens to my consulting and collaborative work. My goal is to help others move beyond sustaining what we have toward restoring what we’ve lost, while creating systems that allow people and nature to thrive together.
I’d love to connect with you, learn about your vision, and explore how we can restore sustainability—together.
